Challenge Situation Sheets | The Child's Mindset
Sam's Story, age 9
As an only child, I grew up living with my single mother until I was 7 years old. I was often left alone for days at a time and was frequently abused by various visitors to the house. Two years ago, my mother was convicted for drug trafficking and subsequently sent to prison. I was then placed in my grandmother’s custody where my daily life became stable. I did well in school and attended on a regular basis. I especially enjoyed being with my friends. My grandmother recently passed away. I am currently receiving care at Helping Hand Home for Children.

What do I need to know and be able to do in order to master – being flexible when I’m faced with a challenging situation?
