Challenge Situation Sheets | The Child's Mindset Sam's Story, age 9 As an only child, I grew up living with my single mother until I was 7 years old. I was often left alone for days at a time and was frequently abused by various visitors to the house. Two years ago, my mother was convicted for drug trafficking and subsequently sent to prison. I was then placed in my grandmother’s custody where my daily life became stable. I did well in school and attended on a regular basis. I especially enjoyed being with my friends. My grandmother recently passed away. I am currently receiving care at Helping Hand Home for Children. Targeted Habit of Mind Tolerant of Ambiguity I will know that I am being “tolerate of ambiguity” when I can figure out how to remain flexible – even when things happen that I didn’t expect.
