Challenge Problem Set

The Future of Unknowns

Problem Set:

Unanticipated natural disasters shatter our sense of wellbeing; a phenomenon that is transforming communities around the world on a frequent basis.

Throughout this Design Learning Challenge, we will build on the human-centered design principles of Victor Papanek to empathize with community leaders and members; empower all to not just survive – rather thrive as they navigate the impact of the disasters; the future of unknowns.

According to the National Weather Service, a record-setting storm affected the western half of Dane County, Wisconsin on Monday, August 20, 2018.

The most severe accumulation of rain was reported in the Town of Cross Plains with more than 15 inches within 24 hours; approximately half of the normal annual rainfall.
