Kansas City Challenge 2016

What if we were to...
Reinvent Learning on Purpose?

Kansas City Design Learning Challenge 2016
Now in its third year running, the Design Learning Network was delighted to co-facilitate the Kansas City Design Learning Challenge 2016 in partnership with the Blue Valley Unified School District and Kansas City Public School District alongside our host the Kansas City Art Institute.

Problem Set
Students today around the globe are at risk of not graduating from high school. Young people are experiencing an ever-expanding gap in readiness for a career and further study. Inequities in society are growing as are the number of the “have” and “have not’s”.

Collaborations with Creatives
This challenge creates unique opportunities for middle and high school teachers and students alike to collaborate alongside creative professionals and college design students as supported by members of the Center for Architecture and Design.

KCAI, March 5 Event Host and Primary Sponsor
It is with great appreciation and an honor to offer special thanks to the Kansas City Art Institute for being our gracious host on March 5, as well as our primary KC2016 sponsor!

Pilot Study
In preparation to the KC challenge, this very problem set was explored by a team of industrial design educators and practitioners during a Design Learning Swarm in Seattle at the Industrial Designers Society of America’s (IDSA) conference in August 2015.
