Overview of the Challenge

Overview of KC DLC 2016

During the month of January, 2016 – Kansas City area middle and high school teachers alongside design educators and professionals, students from Blue Valley North High School, Center for Advanced Professional Studies, Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, and Lincoln College Preparatory Academy grappled with the Reinvent Learning on Purpose Challenge – Step 1 (Explore: Gathering Information) and Step 2 (Describe: Define Problem).

On Thursday, February 4, 2016 – all students participating in the challenge, alongside their teachers and creatives, gathered at Paseo Academy for an daylong Midpoint Workshop to complete Step 3 (Explain: Build Information) of the challenge.

On Saturday, March 5, 2016 – teachers and students gathered alongside creatives at the KCAI Culminating Event where learners completed Step 4 (Demonstrate: Show Understanding) and Step 5 (Evaluate: Reflect and Assess).
  • The KCAI morning session included a compelling keynote presentation, relevant professional development teacher/creative session, and hands-on student experience.

  • Immediately following lunch, students were coached by mentors as they dug into the final steps of the challenge.

  • Additional invited local designers and community members attended as participants at various times throughout the day.
